As the Chinese Government is averse to permitting the erection of Lighthouses on any of the outlying Islands within their jurisdiction, it would I think be desirable to put pressure on them to erect a first-class light on one of them to induce the erection of a lighthouse with the sanction of the contiguous Islands, as might be deemed expedient. Such a light would be extremely useful for Vessels proceeding up the Canton River, and, in connexion with the proposed lights to be erected by the Colony on Cape D'Aguilar and Green Island, would materially facilitate the approach to this Harbour at night.
